The mound where we are excavating is of 3.5 km circumference in 80 acres of private agricultural land. We are finding structure after structure of the habitation site, the first of its kind in Tamil Nadu. It could be a huge urban settlement of independent civilisation on the banks of the Vaigai..... The excavation is lending much credence to the narrative in Sangam literature that throws light on the ancient Tamil way of life. What's really fascinating is the detailed process by which the chariots are newly made every year. It's a labor of love for around 200 carpenters, helpers, blacksmiths, tailors, and painters who work tirelessly according to a strict 58 day deadline.

The craftsmen don't follow any written instructions. Instead, all the knowledge is handed down from generation to generation. Only one family of carpenters has hereditary rights to the construction of the chariots....The priests, dressed in bright attire, sing and carry garlands that are delivered to the chief carpenters.

What happens to the chariots after the Rath Yatra is finished?

The chariots are dismantled, and the wood is used in the kitchen of the Jagannath Temple. It's considered to be one of the largest kitchens in the world. A remarkable 56 types of Mahaprasad (food) are prepared there, in earthen pots over fire, for offering to Lord Jagannath. The temple kitchen has the capacity to cook for 100,000 devotees per day.

The retention, post- 1947, of the colonial-era civil services, administrative structure and armed forces wedded to British norms and values has perpetuated policies in the Western mould, notwithstanding the ‘socialism’ professed by its rulers. Moreover, the English-medium education system has had its effect. This is another colonial legacy that today mass produces software specialists, engineers, doctors and financial managers itching to service the post- industrial economies of the US, UK, Canada and Australia.

We are not ready to sacrifice to please Devas, who will give us rain...but perhaps willing to sacrifice HUMANS instead? A terrible situation is unfolding in the country and NONE from spiritual organization want to take these words to perform Yagas. To that extent the spiritual organizations lack the wisdom or are greedy that devotees offering if given to Devas will not fill their coffers am not sure...but whatever it looks like more the silence of not performing these Yagas, more of Human sacrifice is to happen, either in FLOODS or IN DROUGHTS....
