Teacher from Karnataka walks 10KM to teach

Here is the true face of the women of this holy land....what a grit and determination for a wonderful cause. It is such woman who should get headlines, to erase all the evils that appear as headlines.Would the media do it? It is also in the hands of teachers to produce such a generation who would put it as the headlines.
"Most of the people in this village are daily-wage labourers. I want to train and educate their children," she says. ''Walking alone exposes Sumitra to the dangers of attack by wild animals as the school is located in a thick forest, but her determination to shape the lives of children in the small village ''

Top it all she has not asked for transfer, how can she when she wants to transform the lives of the poor children?

See/Feel our handicap in our attitudes

It really pains as one lives in such a time...a Silver medalist in Olympic Sindhu gets 13 crores...while Mariyappan Gold medalist gets 2crores, even the Silver medalist from Haryana gets 4 crores... In the below article, replace Singapore with India or any country which shows difference in rewards to sons/daughters of the country who bring a medal representing their country irrespective of levels/competition. This is very universal including the world, after all the ONLY country which could really speak on these issues, India is still hypnotized by colonial masters mindset through their language of instruction right in the school. And it is these English speaking people who sit on top of such events in the world stage to continue this Hypocrisy and come out with their smart answers and our country people continue to listen and accept such smart answers.
Wonder what would have been rewarded for Mariyappan had he been born in AP/Delhi or Haryana?
What our normal athletes could not do, our people with physical challenges overcame all challenges to bring Gold, yet we do not reward them enough.Sad, none talks of it. Our modern women who goes to the street to protest on silly reason do they come to street to question for such a valid cause?
https://thoughtsofrealsingaporeans.wordpress.com/2016/09/13/the-paralympics-prize-money-debate-same-same-but-different/
And if we keep saying that oh, paralympians are extraordinary athletes who have to overcome great odds, and they make Singapore proud all the same as our Olympians, disabled people can still lead meaningful, productive, and normal lives, how we want to promote a more inclusive and caring society and other nice things that politicians like to say, yada yada. Then what would it make us if we give less prize money to the paralympians? Hypocrites.

Deepa, was confined to a wheelchair in 1999 owing to a spinal tumour which paralysed her from waist down. Under the new sports policy of Haryana, the state government would give her Rs 4 crore for winning silver medal in Paralympics.

The AAP government in Delhi too, has announced a cash reward of Rs 2 crore.

Mother tongue medium of instruction to save the country

http://www.thehindu.com/news/national/tamil-nadu/learning-through-mother-tongue-is-effective/article9091379.ece?homepage=true?w=alstates
''We motivate them to send replies in Tamil''--This is in Germany...
In Sweden, in any school if there are minimum 5 students speaking lets say Marathi, they can demand an assistant who knows Swedish and Marathi to help those Marathi speaking children. So much of importance given to mother tongue.
Would our education ministry or educationists listen to this Prof. from German University? Now for we have still not heard what Mahatma Gandhi said...For none can say it better than him... "If this process is still persisted in, it bids fair to rob the nation of its soul. The sooner, therefore educated India shakes itself free from the hypnotic spell of the foreign medium, the better it would be for them and the people."
http://www.gandhi-manibhavan.org/gandhiphilosophy/philosophy_education_aspergandhi.htm
Bose was among the pioneers who realized the importance of science education in one's own mother tongue for its better foundation among young students.
http://www.worldscientific.com/doi/pdf/10.1142/9789812790729_fmatter
A P J Abdul Kalam has said that science education should be imparted to children in vernacular languages to bring creativity and enable easy grasp of the subject.
http://archive.indianexpress.com/news/imparting-science-education-in-mother-tongue-kalam/740080/
Responding to a question, the scientist, a native of Tamil Nadu, said science should be learnt in every person's mother tongue. "Except English scientists, all other international scientists including Bulgarian, Japanese, French, German and more are studying in their mother tongue. I studied in my mother tongue too which is Tamil. From all our experience we can say learning in the vernacular will encourage independent thinking in science," Annadurai said.
http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/chennai/Science-should-be-learnt-in-ones-mother-tongue-Mylswamy-Annadurai/articleshow/30954474.cms
Our main argument is that one’s mother-tongue is the only natural and human medium for imparting instruction. If anyone should doubt this, let him go and make enquires of educationalist in Japan, Scandinavia, England, Italy, Mexico or any other land where human beings are human beings.
http://www.mahakavibharathiyar.info/english/national_language.htm
Am sure time will come for everyone to realize how ignorant people have been for not listening to these great souls...and who can guess how we welcome all the social miseries of English society with this medium of English.

Keeladi excavations where are they?

Look whats happening in Tamil Nadu...We are busy with Tasmac, IPL and Now Tamil Nadu Premier league...no other state in the country have come out like this crazy idea of Premier Leagues(Thanks to the ENGLISH EDUCATED CLASS OF TAMIL NADU)...while these Keeladi excavations are now going out of Tamil Nadu????Who cares? We want our Yoga/Thantra/Breathing classes and get ourselves hypnotized by so called Spiritual gurus...If only we educate ourselves of our former glorious days then we will wake up from all these Gurus of Spiritualism and Premier leagues...and TASMAC...
http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/chennai/Heritage-enthusiasts-want-Tamil-Nadu-govt-to-set-up-museum-in-Keeladi/articleshow/54428068.cms
"We still have no idea what happened to the materials excavated from the Adichanallur site. They are lying in the godown of the ASI and the public have no idea about them. It's unfortunate. It's high time the government acquired land and set up a museum in Keeladi," said K Muruganandam, a heritage enthusiast in Madurai. ...People will only know about the heritage of a place if the excavated materials are housed in a museum on the site itself," said Venkatesan, whose novel 'Kavalkottam' won Sahitya Akademi Award in 2011.
What is the role of media here? I mean the TV media?who talk almost 24 hours about murders/rapes/accidents and all other negative things in the country/state/city where are they to report these news and make Tamil Nadu a better place?
I read in news that a Portugal Beauty contest winner during her Madurai visit creates awareness for cleaning the Meenakshi Temple...Wonder where are our Beauty contest winners? What are they doing? Who are the sponsors of such contests here in the country?Who are the audience?Who will create awareness here?

Geo or Jya - Means measurement in Sanskrit

Long back I read these lines from Deivathin Kural and so when I saw these YagaKundams near Sri Perumbudur, birth place of Sri Ramanujar I thought I will share it...
Everything in those times were connected to Spirituality, as they say, 'Part of Life'. Whether dance or music or literature all towards God as means and end. Sacrifice has its own meaning with these dimensions and shapes, having its results..Do we ever question the antenna's size, shape, etc? Just as the Antenna's in telecommunication system have their own reasons, these Sacrificial Pits or YayaKundams have their own reasons for their dimensions and shapes...
If we perform Yagas as mentioned in Bhagad Gita, we get rain and benefit is ours..if not suffering is also ours...This is the proof in spirituality, while in science instantly signal gets cut off when antenna is wrongly designed....
http://www.kamakoti.org/tamil/Kural88.htm
"Jya" means the earth and "miti" is method of measurement. "Jyamiti" evolved with the need to measure the sacrificial place :"geometry" is derived from this word. The "geo" in geography is from "jya".

Sri Vaitheeswaran Temple, Poonamallee

http://www.kamakoti.org/tamil/3dk42.htm
Would the present modern Spiritual Gurus who open up their Yoga, Kriya, Thanthra and all other kinds of classes extracting course fees, in every street corners, appeal their sincere followers to take this as cleaning places of worship is cleaning the hearts? But these Spiritual Gurus need temples for their pamphlets distributions and other marketing activities to get the clients/customers/agents for their Yoga,Kriya,Thanthra,etc...
Is Swachh Bharath ever possible keeping our places of worship unclean? As I see it neither such Gurus will say, nor such followers are ready...So much so of the present day Spiritual Values from Gurus down to their followers. I wish someone proves me wrong, and instead of spending crores on so called World Cultural Fest or Traditional Games Fest, they advice their followers to clean places of worship...to keep the great grand culture of this land alive and to keep people's body/mind and soul really fit.
Schools and Colleges can adopt nearby temples or places of worship to make it secular and clean the premises under Swachh Bharath...
Yesterday MadhavaSevas Uzhavaram at Sri Vaidyeeswaran Temple in Poonamallee and here some photos...There were Chakras installed by Adi Sankaracharya as told...and also Chevvai paadam...

Sivasthanam Kanchi Puram

Ever since I read about Sivasthanam near Kanchi Puram, where Kanchi MahaSwamigal used to stay, I wanted to make a visit there and spend sometime...It happened few years back and here are some photos of that visit...Also its said that Adi Sankarar had visited this temple...Now its a serene calm temple where Veda Padasalai is happening in its traditional sense...All the blessings of MahaSwamigal...Also the famous well was also seen...its said Mrs Indira Gandhi or Mr Rajive Gandhi when being Prime Minister of the country they visited MahaSwamigal here...like many other devotees...

Thiruvotriyur or திருஒற்றியூர்

Visiting Thiruvotriyur in North Chennai. This temple had a unique place as many saints and sages blessed this place including Adi Sankarar, Pattinathar, Sundaramurthi Swamigal, Vallalar just to name a few...Kanchi MahaSwamigal says "திருவொற்றியூரில் பதின்மூன்றாம் நூற்றாண்டைச் சேர்ந்த மண்டபம் ஒன்று இருக்கிறது.

India, what can it teach us?

After a very long time, a book makes me interested. This time also by sheer force of chance, stumbled across,'India What can it teach us?'. This is a series of lectures to the Imperial(now its called Indian) Civil Service candidates from Britain in 1880s about to land in India to rule India for the British/East India Company.
In the title of the book or even in lecture title, as ''What can India teach us?'' Who is the us? In 1880s it was the Imperial/Indian Civil Service candidates, but now in 2016, it could very well be the English educated loyalists who even now follow strictly many systems of the English people in education and administration including the very name of the examination....to this date as ICS.
First 3 titles of the lectures/book,
Lecture 1 - What can India teach us?
Lecture 2 - On the truthful character of the Hindus.
Lecture 3 - Human interest of Sanskrit Literature.
If I were to look over the whole world to find out the country most richly endowed with all the wealth, power, and beauty that nature can bestow – in some parts a very paradise on earth – I should point to India. If I were asked under what sky the human mind has most full developed some of its choicest gifts, has most deeply pondered on the greatest problems of life, and has found solutions of some of them which well deserve the attention even of those who have studied Plato and Kant – I should point to India. And if I were to ask myself from what literature we, here in Europe, we who have been nurtured almost exclusively on the thoughts of Greeks and Romans, and of one Semitic race, the Jewish, may draw that corrective which is most wanted in order to make our inner life more perfect, more comprehensive, more universal, in fact more truly human, a life, not for this life only, but a transfigured and eternal life – again I should point to India.
That very Sanskrit, the study of which may at first seem so tedious to you and so useless, if only you will carry it on, as you may carry it on here at Cambridge better than anywhere else, will open before you large layers of literature, as yet almost unknown and unexplored, and allow you an insight into strata of thought deeper than any you have known before, and rich in lessons that appeal to the deepest sympathies of the human heart.
In ''Human interest of Sanskrit Literature'', he says,I should advise every young man who wishes to enjoy his life in India, and to spend his years there with profit to himself and to others to learn Sanskrit and to learn it well.

Would the Tamil Nadu politicians/educationists wake up from their deep slumber and make Sanskrit Mandatory like in this St James school, London?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AsY3NVrviiw
Would the central govt make it mandatory to know Sanskrit in ICS,for exactly the same reasons why its mentioned to ICS candidates by Max Muller in 1880s?

Ayikudi Balasubramanya Swami Temple

During my Tenkasi, visit this temple in Ayikudi was another one to remember for its quite, calm, serene surrounding and the temple was though small very beautiful. On the day I visited it was a Shashti day, so all the lamps were lit and also Balasubramaya Swami was taken in the beautiful chariot by devotees. The priest(must be from Kerala) decorated the Swami in Mulasthana beautifully taking many hours patiently. It was a sight to remember and cherish.... Thiruppugazh on this Murugan is also on the wall...the temple tank, legend says that it was Hanuman made it with his tail to quench his thirst and Sita and Rama rested on the banks. More details of this temple. http://www.hindupedia.com/en/Sri_Balasubramanya_Swamy_Temple_Ayikudi and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ayikudi_Balasubramanya_Swami_Temple

Ilanchi Kumarar temple Kutralam-

While in Tenkasi, I was able to visit this wonderful temple amidst the natural beauty of hills and green fields. It is said in the history of this Murugan temple that Agasthiar first came to get this Murugan blessings before he could enter the Shiva temple in Kutralam. The elephant and cows being taken care was wonderful to see.Hindu temples not only talks of taking care of animals but also do it right in the temples giving job opportunities for people to get an employment as well. When children visit they love these animals just like even adults like. Its a practice of Love and Compassion.
Arunagirinathar's Thiruppugazh sung on Ilanchi Kumarar is also there... More information http://www.ilanjimurugantemple.tnhrce.in/ http://temple.dinamalar.com/en/new_en.php?id=570

Swedish Model, Teach all major religions mandatory for all

Below mail sent as input suggestion to New Educational Policy.
Namaste,
The country is seen in turmoil over lack of proper understanding on religious values. Kashmir Youth and even school students are in streets, why? Do we provide a platform for all children to learn, understand and accept that all different religions talk on love, compassion and truth?
Sweden schools, make it mandatory for all children before they complete their school life to learn about all major religions of the world for all students. I felt its a shame that children in Sweden learns that Caste is Security, while here in India we are taught Caste is bad, how ignorant we are of our own strengths? Please bring real secular education of treating all major religions equally, making it mandatory for all children.
If Rene Guenon talks of Caste for preserving Hinduism, Jagadguru Kanchi Sri Chandrasekharendra Saraswathi elaborately explains all these....why are we denied all these wisdom? Is not education which says 'thamasoma jyothirgamaya', and we claim SatyameJayam, its time we share these truths to our future generation without sacrificing more human suffering and lives because of ignorance.
If Christianity is given the special treatment in Sweden, for exactly the same reason in India Hinduism could be given special treatment.
Also attached contents of Swedish religious book about Hinduism, which may be a shock to many of us about how Caste is Security to Hinduism.
The sister religions of Hinduism, for example, the religions of Greece and Rome, have long since perished. But thanks to the caste system with the Brahmins as safe-guarders of religion we have today a Hinduism which is still living and which down to this century has produced flowers of sanctity.
In a move described as "the government steamrollering the agency", Björklund has decided that Christianity should continue to receive special treatment when teaching religion in schools.
“It’s not that the Christian religion is better than any other, rather it has to do with the enormous influence Christianity has had on our country, and still does have in our part of the world,” Björklund explained.
The agency had proposed that the world's five main religions, which are all taught in religious education classes Swedish schools, should be given equal emphasis.

Preserving our Monuments - What have I done?

http://edition.cnn.com/2015/10/06/architecture/victoria-lautman-wells/index.html
"There are hundreds of them, just crumbling to dust. My goal is to show people, tell as many people as I can, about these stepwells. People will start asking, 'How do I go see them?' When tourists start coming -- then that's when things will be preserved."
Will teachers talk about Victoria's interest in preserving India's ancient step wells, and ask the students what ARE WE DOING TO PRESERVE COUNTRY'S MONUMENTS?would the local tourists like to visit these places to preserve?
We can make our students to rediscover the country's past just like what Victoria from America is trying to do about country's deep step wells. In the country, deep step wells are just one of the millions of things to rediscover....
Read Mahakavi Bharathys thoughts on the education and how he questions even the style architecture of Universities in the country done in Italian style, while architecture of British Universities are not done in Italian style, but Britain's own style...and He says our Universities/Schools should have that Indian style of architecture even...Wonder what he would say, when he sees many things British now in schools and colleges and even homes and in governance and posts after 100 years of his writing.
